Professional, Audition Level Orchestra Basses, $8,500

As anyone who has taken a professional symphony audition can attest, it is extremely competitive.  There are so many variables related to competing in, advancing and then winning an orchestra audition.  One of the most daunting tasks is simply having a bass that sounds good and that is at a very highiest level: One that is proportionate to the player (not too small or certainly not too big) and most of all, one that has an easy responsive quality that enables all the notes to come out, with ease of effort!!  This last one, 'response' is a key, but it is essential to have the right combination of size, tone and response.  Lastly, it certainly helps as a finalist (when there is no longer a blind screen up), that your future stand partner or 'section mates' can see an attractive, beautiful instrument that they will consider inviting into their bass family

We offer 4 new models:

We have worked very closely with some of the most in demand college/conservatory professors that complained 'too many of their students are left with mostly super-hyped, over priced basses, that barely offer the minimum needed'.   The most daunting task for serious graduates or the young professional is where to find and how much to pay for "that" bass.  As most know, the sky is the limit!  These days, we will often see players (in finals) that have basses that usually range in the $20-30k range, but still, even at these prices, it is hard to get the right bass or something acceptable.

We now offer four new models of audition level, professional quality basses.  We are very excited about these basses.  They are made for us in Romania, by an exclusive bass maker and shop. These are not factory made, but all hand carved. These are our chosen models: a wonderful Busan model, a Gofriller, Rogeri and Gand-Bernadel.  Each model is aimed at a specific type of player and sound.

CALL US!  These basses will never be a point and click, order it now kind of instrument.  Let us hear what your needs are, your playing style and tell us what your hopes are and we'll take it from there. Each bass here is specially prepared and set up for that individual player.

Domenico Busan, circa 1750 (Romania, 2015) $8,500

Domenico Busan model Domenico Busan model Domenico Busan model

This Domenico Busan model is modeled after the special Italian bass noted for its remarkable tone, playability, size and responsiveness.  Even the shading and color offers a very beautiful and inviting bass.  First about the Busan size: While the bass is hardly small, it is big where it allows the air and tone to roll out, yet small enough in the upper half, which makes it an easier bass to negotiate. Yet still, it has a big sound!  The shoulders are sloping.  Notice how that while they widest span (in shoulders) is 20", they slope generously (right where it is needed) to make it super easy to play any solo work, but get that big orchestra sound and warmth from the body.  It is considered a smallish, 7/8, but only by length, in that the back is 45" long down the center seam.  While the upper bouts at the widest measurement, still only 20" they slope inward.  The C bouts 16", the lower bouts 27" with a nice string length of 41 1/2"  The neck made from solid maple, is a perfect D neck (and no, we will not make you an Eb neck!)

What materials are used in this bass?
The top is made from specially imported Bosnian spruce which is the same wood used on only the most expensive instruments (old and new).  The back, sides and neck are made from nicely figured Carpatian maple.  The tuners are Rubners,  specially imported from Germany.  These too, only found on the best basses.  All fittings like the bridge and endpin specially imported as well:  the German endpin is our familiar, Ulsa endpin with either Aubert or Despiau premium bridges.

How do these play?
Again, physically easy to get around on, but tend to have big and responsive playability.  If you are shopping around the other elite bass shops for 'that' bass, don't be afraid to ship this one out to you at that same time for your consideration to 'A/B' in comparison.  While it is super affordable, it is not a 'cheap' bass in any way and will win your heart, even over basses well past the $25-30k range.  Forget about price.  It is made better, sounds better and looks better.

What about a warranty?  We have a great all inclusive 3 year warranty.  See what we say about our new bass warranty.
