Evah Pirazzi Bass Strings

Evah Pirazzi bass strings (by Pirastro Germany), are the most versatile and most popular upright bass strings in the world today. While they were completely designed and invented for classical players, it was equally surprising that they also became the number #1 Jazz bass strings as well.

About classical. Because Evah Pirazzi bass strings have a synthetic core, they play and behave differently than regular bowing (steel braided) core strings will. They are less tension and have a warm (not bright) tone. If yo have a bass that tends to play or sound "tight" or edgy bright, then the "EP's" will warm it up a bit. One absolute tradeoff with Evah Pirazzi is that while they respond fine and have a wonderful tone, the the player might notice a little slower response than with what a steel core string (like Passiones or Flexocor Deluxe) will have. Evah Pirazzi bass strings were developed to imitate old style gut strings, but without the hassles, unwinding and tempermental problems that guts can have. These last a long time and again, the number #1 bass string.

Jazz strings? Yes! Besides Thomastik Spircores, the Evah Pirazzi Weich and Orchestra gauge strings will have lots of sustain, less edgy sounding, with just a hint of 'growl'. These strings s t r e t c h the first day or two, so don't put them on just before a recording session or concert. They also do not have a super immediate play-in like regular, metal strings will.

Weich (light) or Orchestra Gauge? When the Evahs first came out, they were only in the regular "orchestra" gauge. They sounded great, but it is the "weich" gauge (which means "light"), that feels and measures more like regular steel stringed gauges. For more power and a little more sustain, get the orchestra gauge. For a nicer left-hand feel and a little quicker response, get the weichs.
